But in most industries, you have to reach thousands of members of your audience to secure a single sale. Reach is one of the most frustrating formulas in advertising. Media directors crunch numbers to show clients how many Gross Reach Points they'll achieve in their audience (the gross number of times your audience is reached). Interpreting the GRP calculation is usually one area in which marketing departments and entrepreneurs feel quite uncomfortable.
Once you know this number, you should ask the question: "What medium is best to reach my audience that number of times?" Don't be intimidated. Reach is a crucial cornerstone of your marketing efforts. The hard part is knowing how many times you should reach your audience. Once you have this number, developing a media plan is a numbers game anyone can play, as long as you have the patience.
